Good luck on the test results. It is always such a long week when the kids are testing. I'm glad the weather cooperated for a little down time.

Hi,

I've found it helpful to make a to-do list and assign a specified period of time next to each task. This way I know that I am on the clock. I tend to move right into action until I've completed my tasks.

Thanks for sharing your insight :)

Announcements about school events or projects such as yearbooks are fundamentally different from advertisements from outside sources designed to sell something to the students they would not otherwise be exposed to in a public school setting.

You are selling the student's access.

You have ads on your website. I may choose to visit or not. A child has ads on her worksheet. She cannot choose to avoid worksheets without compromising her education.

I think that posters reminding students to buy yearbooks or t-shirts are okay. Plus, announcements are usually made for fundraisers. Even assemblies are held for selling wrapping paper, etc. I just don't think ads belong on student papers. They would probably just draw on them or make them say something else anyway.:)

I love playing devil's advocate on this one.

No doubt that many teachers do spend their own money for materials. Should it have to be that way? I don't think it should. I understand that's the reality of the situation though.

So let's say we eliminate ads on tests. I can go with that. I see where that could be distracting to the students.

How about on a worksheet or other handout where the "big test grade" isn't on the line? I know that as yearbook adviser I could get a reminder out to students that yearbooks are on sale.
